Who We Are

WHO WE ARE

The Bangladesh Institute of Law and International Affairs (BILIA) is the first think tank organization in Bangladesh. With the passage of time, BILIA has become a leading think tank in South Asia for advanced research in Law and International Affairs.

BILIA is a non-profit, independent and non-governmental research organization. The organization is financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Bangladesh.

The Institute mainly focuses on independent research and analysis. It brings together the best thinkers, policy practitioners, academicians, jurists, lawyers, eminent professionals, and personalities to conduct robust research that generates new ideas, bridges the gap between ideas and policy design, and leads to rich, inclusive policies and recommendations that fit the society. It is a dynamic hub of scholarly and strategic engagement and continuously attracts some of the best talents in research and academia. Although the main focus is on Law and International Affairs but it cannot be denied that no single discipline can stand alone to establish and validate its standing without appreciating the other. BILIA has been a meeting point of various prominent figures who are involved in policy making of the country.

The organization is run by an Executive Council (E.C.) comprising of judges, lawyers, jurists, diplomats and persons who are either practitioners of international relations law, conflict management, mediators peace or have taken an active interest in these. The Executive Council determines the policy and research programmes of the institute.

BILIA has its own research team headed by a Director who is responsible for the designing of its research, seminar, lecture, training and other programmes. A salient feature of BILIA is its flexibility in drawing upon scholars and experts recognised in their respective field and who although available for short periods of time, lend high erudition and scholastic dimension.
